The idea of an European Association
for Body Psychotherapy was first discussed at the First European Congress
for Body Psychotherapy, organised by Dr. Jacob Stattman, Dr. Malcolm Brown
and Bjorn Blumenthal at Davos, Switzerland in September 1987.
The Association was officially created with Statutes registered under
Section 60 of the Swiss Civil Code, in December 1989.
The officers of the Association were
elected by democratic vote at the Second European Congress for Body Psychotherapy,
at Seefeld, Austria in September 1989, and subsequently at the Third Congress
at Lindau, Germany, September 1991.
Since then it has expande into a thriving
association with nearly 350 members in 21 different countries. It has
started to accredit Body Psychotherapy Training Schools; has a list of
it's own publications; is collating a massive bibliography on Body Psychotherapy;
and has it's own website.
